Editorial Guidelines

At IconBiography, we share ideas for hair, fashion, nails, and home decor. These Editorial Guidelines explain the standards we set for our articles, how we approach research and visual content, and how readers can raise concerns.

Our aim is to make inspiration useful. A guide should help you understand a look, compare options, or plan a practical change—not simply offer a collection of attractive pictures.

These standards apply to articles published under Caitlin C. Sieber’s name and to work submitted by any other contributors.

Our Commitment to Readers

We want readers to leave IconBiography with ideas they can adapt to their own preferences, routines, and budgets.

Our editorial priorities are to:

  • Answer the question promised by the article title.
  • Explain practical choices rather than repeat generic advice.
  • Separate verifiable information from personal taste and editorial opinion.
  • Respect different ages, body sizes, skin tones, hair textures, and living spaces.
  • Identify commercial relationships when they are relevant.
  • Describe illustrative and AI-generated images honestly.
  • Correct errors and reconsider recommendations when information changes.

Search trends can help us understand reader interests, but search traffic alone is not a reason to publish an article without useful information.

What We Cover

Hair

Our hair content includes haircut inspiration, hair color ideas, styling options, and seasonal or occasion hairstyles.

Guides should consider relevant differences in texture, density, length, styling time, upkeep, and the starting condition of the hair. An appearance shown in a photograph does not establish how a cut or color will work on every reader.

Hair inspiration must not be presented as a guaranteed salon result or as a diagnosis or treatment for hair or scalp conditions.

Fashion

Our fashion content covers outfit combinations, seasonal dressing, occasion wear, plus-size style, and practical wardrobe guidance.

Where relevant, we consider fit, fabric, layering, comfort, weather, dress codes, and versatility. Recommendations should leave room for individual preferences instead of imposing rigid rules about age, size, or body shape.

Nails

Our nail content includes color combinations, shapes, finishes, seasonal designs, and occasion nail art.

A design guide should distinguish visual inspiration from instructions that require specific products, equipment, or professional skill. Nail photographs do not prove that a product is suitable for everyone or that a particular result will last for a stated period.

Home Decor

Our home content includes living room inspiration, kitchen styling, seasonal decorating, and selected DIY or craft ideas.

Guides should consider room size, available space, everyday use, materials, and realistic placement. A decorative image is not evidence that a construction method, installation, or product is safe or suitable for every home.

How an Article Is Developed

Our publication standard calls for the following steps:

  1. Identify the reader’s need. Establish the question, occasion, or practical problem the article should address.
  2. Define the scope. Make sure the title and planned sections describe the same subject.
  3. Research the topic. Find suitable evidence for factual claims and identify details that need checking.
  4. Develop the draft. Organize the guidance clearly and explain meaningful differences between ideas.
  5. Check claims and links. Review names, dates, specifications, instructions, and supporting sources where relevant.
  6. Review visuals. Check that images support the text and are not presented as proof of testing or real-world results.
  7. Complete editorial review. Review accuracy, readability, originality, inclusivity, and disclosures before publication.

A draft should not be published until a human editor has reviewed it. AI output, a completed outline, or an attractive image is not a substitute for that review.

Research and Source Selection

The appropriate source depends on the claim being made.

For product specifications, materials, sizing, and care instructions, we prioritize current information from the manufacturer, brand, or retailer responsible for the product. For technical subjects, sources should have relevant expertise and provide information that can be checked.

Sources may include:

  • Manufacturer instructions and official product documentation.
  • Brand size charts, material descriptions, and care guidance.
  • Relevant professional organizations and public authorities.
  • Established publications with identifiable authors and sourcing.
  • Original interviews or clearly documented first-hand experience.

Pinterest and other social platforms can help identify visual styles and reader interests. A popular post, however, does not establish a product’s performance, safety, or suitability.

We should not repeat a claim simply because several websites repeat it. When reliable support is unavailable, the claim should be removed, qualified, or clearly identified as an opinion.

Accuracy and Fact-Checking

Before publication, factual details should be checked against suitable sources. Depending on the article, these may include:

  • Product names, materials, dimensions, and available sizes.
  • Hair and nail terminology.
  • Product-use and maintenance instructions.
  • Dates, event references, and seasonal information.
  • Prices, availability, and retailer terms.
  • Statistics, quotations, and attributed statements.
  • Internal links and external references.

Styling judgments should be presented as suggestions. Words such as “best,” “easy,” “comfortable,” and “low-maintenance” need context because readers have different needs and expectations.

Prices, stock, formulas, sizing, and product descriptions can change. Readers should confirm current details with the seller or manufacturer before purchasing.

Recommendations and Personal Testing

An idea featured on IconBiography may be based on research, visual analysis, published specifications, or styling principles.

We do not treat those methods as equivalent to personally wearing an outfit, applying a product, completing a manicure, visiting a salon, or building a DIY project.

Claims of hands-on testing or personal experience should appear only when that experience actually occurred and can be described accurately. Where testing informs a recommendation, the article should explain relevant conditions and limitations.

A positive recommendation is not a promise that every reader will have the same experience.

Originality and Attribution

Articles should offer useful explanations, practical distinctions, or an original editorial approach. Rewriting another publisher’s article without adding meaningful value does not meet our standard.

When another source supplies a quotation, distinctive finding, statistic, or substantive factual claim, appropriate attribution should be provided. Direct quotations must preserve the speaker’s meaning and be used within applicable permissions.

Images also require an appropriate basis for use. An image being publicly visible on Pinterest, a search engine, or a social-media account does not by itself grant permission to republish it. Attribution required by a license or permission must be retained.

AI-Assisted Content

IconBiography uses AI-assisted tools in parts of its writing and creative workflow. These tools can assist with planning, drafting, editing, and creating illustrative images.

AI-generated material can contain errors, unsupported claims, repetitive advice, or unrealistic visual details. Our editorial standard requires human review of that material before publication.

In particular:

  • AI output must not be treated as a factual source.
  • Names, quotations, statistics, links, and technical claims require checking.
  • AI-generated people must not be presented as real customers, interview subjects, or product testers.
  • Generated images must not be presented as photographs of completed salon work, tested products, or projects we personally carried out.
  • Responsibility for publication remains with the human editor.

Images and Visual Examples

Some images on IconBiography are AI-generated or AI-assisted illustrations. Other visuals may include original photographs, licensed images, or material used with appropriate permission.

Visuals should help explain the accompanying article. They should not imply that an exact garment, product, nail finish, hair result, or furnished room has been independently tested or verified when it has not.

An illustrative image may differ from real products in color, texture, scale, construction, or fit. Where an image’s illustrative nature could affect a reader’s understanding or purchasing decision, that context should be made clear near the image or within the article.

Informative images should have useful alt text. Decorative images should not create unnecessary repetition for readers using screen readers.

Inclusive and Respectful Language

Our content should offer inspiration without suggesting that readers need a different body, younger appearance, particular hair texture, or larger home to participate.

We aim to avoid:

  • Body-shaming and age-based restrictions.
  • Treating one skin tone, hair type, or body shape as the default.
  • Describing natural features as flaws that must be corrected.
  • Assuming every reader has the same budget, mobility, time, or space.
  • Presenting personal taste as a universal rule.

Readers decide which ideas suit their own lives. Our role is to explain options clearly.

Advertising, Affiliate Links, and Sponsorships

IconBiography may use advertising, affiliate links, or sponsored partnerships.

When an article includes affiliate links, the commercial relationship should be disclosed clearly near the relevant recommendation or before readers encounter those links. If a qualifying purchase earns us a commission, that relationship must not be hidden.

Paid partnerships, gifted products, and other material relationships should also be disclosed where relevant. A free product or sponsorship must not be presented as an ordinary independent purchase.

Commercial partners should not receive a guaranteed positive review or control an article’s factual conclusions. An advertisement appearing beside an article does not by itself represent an editorial recommendation.

Practical Limits and Professional Guidance

IconBiography provides general information and inspiration. Its articles do not replace individualized advice from a qualified professional.

Hair color, nail products, and DIY projects can involve factors that a photograph or general guide cannot assess. Content should not encourage readers to disregard product instructions, warnings, or professional advice.

We do not diagnose medical conditions or promise treatments. Projects involving electrical work, structural changes, or other specialized work should not be presented as simple decorating tasks.

For more information about the limits of our content, read our Disclaimer.

Updates and Corrections

Articles may need revision when products change, links stop working, information becomes outdated, or readers identify an error.

Updates can include correcting factual statements, replacing unavailable references, clarifying instructions, improving visual explanations, or removing advice that is no longer useful.

Minor spelling and formatting changes may be made without a correction note. A substantial correction that changes the meaning of an article should be explained where readers can find it.

Changing a date alone does not make an article current. An updated date should reflect a meaningful review or revision.
